Marcus Jacob Andreas Schuehle, the third of twelve siblings, was born on February 10, 1843 in Berwangen, Heidelberg, Baden, and christened on February 26, 1843. His parents were Georg Michael Schuehle and Elisabetha Keim. In 1870 he emigrated to the United States, settling in Bexar County, Texas and marrying on April 25, 1871, Antje Heyen 1851-1904, a Texan of German origins. Between 1871 and 1885 the couple had five children, all born in Bexar, Texas.
During this time Schuehle was working on the development of ice and refrigeration machines and on May 25, 1886 he was granted a patent for his ice machine. Five years later he appears in the 1891 City Directory for Bexar County, living on Oakland Rd, as a manufacturer of ice and refrigeration machinery. On April 20, 1892 Jacob leased a plot of land in San Antonio, Texas, from Erich Menger (1842-1915), a hotel owner of Bexar County, Texas and with partners, Jeremiah Ward, and C.H. Brewster and they constructed a twelve-ton ice plant for the manufacture of ice and cold storage rooms on the land. Within months, Schuehle bought out Brewster in October of 1892 he also bought out Ward, giving him a note for $5000, with a mortgage on this property to secure the note. "Know all men by these presents, that I, Jacob Schuehle, of the county of Bexar and State of Texas, party of the first part, for and in consideration of five thousand dollars to me in hand paid by Jeremiah Ward, of the county of Bexar, State of Texas, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain and sell, unto said Jeremiah Ward, the party of the second part, the following property, to wit, one, etc.,___ together with all cooling rooms and lease of the property to its termination, with all privileges appertaining to said lease given to me by said Erich Menger” In case of default, Ward would take possession and sell the property at public sale. Since Schuehle did not pay the note, Ward took possession, and then turned the same over to Schuehle to hold and run for him. “On the 9th day of December 1893, Schuehle and Ward, in writing, authorized J.H. McLeary to sell the property, and he advertised it for sale. On the 12th of the same month Schuehle voluntarily surrendered the lease and premises to Menger, giving him a quitclaim deed thereto.” In the late 1890's Jacob entered into partnership with two other Germans, Dr. Alberto Hoeffer and George Grüning, to construct the ‘Cerveceria Sonora’ in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, it also appears that in this same time period he was involved in the 'Cerveceria La Zapoteca’ in Ciudad Ixtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico, since his obituary in 1910 states he had been living there since 1898. In 1900, the firm Melchers & Succs from Mazatlán, eagerly offered Schuehle a partnership in the brewery and ice plant ‘Cerveceria Pacifico’, where Schuehle’s experience in the construction of ice plants and cold storage units, and his contacts with the manufacturers in United States would prove greatly useful. Marcus Jacob Andreas Schuehle died January 22, 1910 in San Geronimo Ixtepec, Ciudad Ixtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. This implies that he wasn't with the Cervecería Pacifico for long, and that at his death, was probably involved with the ‘Cerveceria La Zapoteca’ in Ciudad Ixtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. Notes:
