On the death of his father Anton Carl Melchers on May 5, 1854, he took over the matrix branch of Melchers & Co., in Bremen, Germany. 1.3 Heinrich Wilhelm Melchers 1822-1891 was born on March 6, 1822 in Bremen, Germany and died on November 17, 1891 at Contrescarpe # 130, Bremen, Germany. Heinrich and his younger brother Georg founded Melchers Sucs, Mazatlán, Mexico in 1846. About 1850 he married Maria Arnoldine Henschielius (1832–1883). Heinrich and Maria had four children.

On October 12, 1859, Bremen he married Agness Margarethe Kiesselbach.Georg and his older brother Heinrich founded Melchers Sucs, Mazatlán, Mexico in 1846. On October 12, 1859 he married Agnes Margarethe Kiesselbach (1839–1911) in Bremen, Germany.

1.5. Gustav Cornelius Melchers the youngest son of Anton Carl Friedrich Melchers 1782-1854 and Agnetha Margarethe Bechtel (1791-1866) was born on August 24, 1830, Bremen, Germany and died on August 1, 1902 in Bremen. In 1846 his older brothers Heinrich and Georg established a successful trading house on the Pacific Coast of México in Mazatlán, Sinaloa and in 1853, hoping to take advantage of the favorable geographic position of the Hawaiian Islands for trade in the South Seas and between America and China, Gustav the youngest, was sent to establish a branch in Honolulu.

With his partner Gustav Reiners, Melchers & Co., Honolulu, was officially opened on February 20, 1854 at number 51, Merchant Street. The building was the first brick house ever to be built in Honolulu.
Like the other Melchers branches, they were importers, commission merchants, ship chandlers and served as a general store selling a variety of goods from hardware, fabrics, cigars, and china. One year later March 12, 1855 Gustav married Emilie Susanne Jeanette Karoline Schuman at Emilie's hometown of Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany. After a honeymoon in Germany the young couple returned to Honolulu on the S.S. Vaquero, arriving in Honolulu on June 5, 1855.
They did not stay long though, and on December 5, 1859 Gustavo, under the title; Consul for Bremen and Lübeck, returned to Germany on S.S. Maroso with his wife Emilie and '2 children'. In 1861 his partner Reiners also returned to Germany and Melchers & Co., Honolulu was left in the hands of Frederick August Schaefer.

Gustav died on August 1, 1902 at #88, Contrescarpe, Bremen and Emilie his wife died in 1905, Bremen. They are buried in the cemetery Friedhof Riensberg, Bremen, with their children Magda and Wilhelm Ludwig, in the family plot of their daughter Magda Edzard nee Melchers.
