Adolph Benjamin Roth was born in France in 1841, son of Frédéric Roth and Henrietta Roos. In 1851 the family moved to California and on July 27, 1860, in the United States Census, we find Adolph living in San Luis Obispo, California, and working as a clerk. He is living with the merchant , Isaac Roth born 1831 also from France.
By 1862 Roth had moved to La Paz, Baja California and in May 1862 he was betrothed to Maria Delfina Savin Cota 1843–1933.
The civil marriage of Adolph and Delfine occurred at eight o’clock in the evening on May 12, 1872, in the port of La Paz and in the home of his future father in law Adolfo Savin Aumodrie. Adolph is described as: Adolfo Benjamin Roth, born in France and living in the Port of La Paz, 21 years old, single, commercial merchant, and legitimate son of Frédéric Roth from France, now deceased, and Henrietta Roos, from France, now living in Wissembourg, 45 years old and widow. His grandparents were Leon and Maria Roth and Enrique Roos and Caroline Dreyfuss, all now deceased. His bride, Maria Delfine Savin Cota is described as having been born in San Antonio, Baja California, being 18 years old, single and legitimate daughter of Adolfo Savin Aumodrie, of 49 years, born in France and living in La Paz, commercial merchant and Guadalupe Cota, born in San Antonio and living in La Paz, 36 years old. The bride’s grandparents were Santiago Savin from France, now deceased, and Victoria Aumodrie, also born in France and now a widow, 70 years old, and living in Malijai , Alpes-Costa Azul, France. The witnesses for the groom were Don Enrique Von Borstell, born in Germany and Don Gustavo Wrangel from Switzerland. For the bride the witnesses were Don José Clemente, born in France and living in La Paz, 71 years old, single and a tailor by profession and Don Santiago Branchertz, 38 years old. Five days later on May 17, 1862, La Paz, the couple were formally married.
Between 1862 and 1868 Adolph and Delfine had three children who were born in La Paz, (Jules Frederick, Maria Matilde and Helen Angela) whilst Adolph travelled back and forth from La Paz to California. On March 10, 1865 Adolph became a naturalized citizen of the United States and in early 1869, due to the poor health of Delfine after the birth of Helen Angela, the family moved to San Francisco, California. From August 28, 1869 until 1886, the family live at 631 Ellis Street, San Francisco. Adolph is a commercial merchant, owning a wholesale clothing business. His four youngest children were born here in San Francisco.
In 1886 the family moved to Los Angeles and Adolph continues to work as a commercial merchant. On October 1, 1888 the family are living at 1134 S Olive Street in Los Angeles, California but by August 1890 he takes an early retirement and the family move to 133 1 2 S Spring St, Los Angeles, and then before his death in 1904, the family move again to 1020 West Seventeenth Street, Los Angeles.
Adolph and Delfine had 7 children:
Adolph died on July 5, 1904 after an agonizing battle of blood poisoning. He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles.
His widow Delfine continued to live on West Seventeenth street surrounded by her children and many of her siblings who also lived in Los Angeles. Delfine died on January 2, 1933 in Los Angeles at the age of 89 years and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles.
1. Dr. Jules Frederick Roth: 1862–1923: According to his baptism record, Jules Frederick Roth was born on October 4, 1862 in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico and baptized on March 10, 1863 at Nuestra Señora de la Paz, La Paz, Baja California. His godparents were his maternal grandparents Alfredo Savin and Guadalupe Cota. Jules studied medicine at Baltimore University School of Medicine (1892) and married Ella K Hine. He died of diphtheria on April 11, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA.
2. Maria Matilde Carlota Roth: 1864-1919. Matilde was born on November 7, 1864 in La Paz, Baja California Sur, México and baptized on March 4, 1865 at Nuestra Señora de la Paz, La Paz, Baja California Sur, México. Matilde never married and died on April 23, 1919 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Helen Angela Roth Savin was born in October, 1868 in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Like her siblings she was an excellent musician and soprano singer. In February 1904 she was betrothed to William Henry Rocholl (1874-1952) and was married on June 14, 1904 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Helen Angela died on January 15, 1967 at Virreyes 935, México, Distrito Federal, México.
Alphonse Adolf Roth was born in October 1872 in San Francisco, California, USA and was a jeweler by profession. He died young at the age of 28 years of tuberculosis on November 21, 1900 in Los Angeles, USA, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles, California.
