On January 31 1885 Federico married Maria Concepcion Talamante Sandoval (1865–1933), daughter of Manuel Talamantes and Espectacion Sandoval, in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. He states that he is the natural son of Adolfo Savin and Dolores Cota and that he had been studying in Mexico City for the past 13 years.
The two witnesses at the marriage on behalf of the groom were; Gilberto Padilla Navarro (Gilberto was brother to Gregorio Padilla Navarro 1845-1887 who had married Federico´s sister, Victoria Hortensia Savin Cota 1853–1941) from Mexico City and resident in La Paz since 1882, commercial trader, single and 27 years old, who has known the groom for fourteen years, and Rodolfo Federico Nieto 1863 – 1902 from Tabasco, single and a lawyer by profession, who had been living for the past two years in La Paz and who had known the groom for the past six years. (The following year Rodolfo would marry Maria Rosa Paulina Virginia Viosca Navarro 1860–1921, daughter of Santiago Viosca and Rosalia Carlota Navarro.)
The priest, Mariano Carlon made a personal note in the register, that he had been told by someone, that the bride´s grandfather was brother of the groom’s mother, and could pose opposition due to the possibility of being blood related, but he nevertheless allowed the marriage to take place.
Federico and Concepción had ten children, all of whom were born in Baja California.

In the 1930 U.S. census we find Fred living in Los Angeles with Haytie and their daughter Corine Celeste. Federico, down as Fred Colta, is a salesman of fruit and says he emigrated in 1910. Cota, and Lily's niece Lorena Aldine Dorsey, (daughter of Lily's sister Ethel Maude Bidwell). Although in the census they state they are married, this perhaps may not be the case. Lily was the daughter of Edward J. Bidwell 1858-1920 from England and his wife Sarah A, Polley, also from England. Edward J. Bidwell also worked as a salesman in the fruit produce industry.
On October 1, 1935 Edmundo married Clotilde Tirado Zatarin 1908–1980. His address on the marriage certificate is 1134 East 88 Place, Los Angeles and he says he is a salesman, born in 1898 and he says it's his first marriage. "For forty years considered the greatest authority on music on the Pacific Coast and one of the best beloved musicians in this country, Santiago Arrillaga"
Mr. Arrillaga was born in 1848 (1847) at Tolosa in the Province of Guipuzcoa, Spain, and at the age of ten began the study of music in the old Spanish fashion, with a solfeggio master who employed no instrumental accompaniment whatever. In the course of a year he had fully mastered all that could be taught him by his master. He then began the study of the piano as a recreation, his teacher being D.E. Aguayo, organist of the parish church. He attended school, both in Spain and France, until the age of sixteen, when, having decided to pursue the musical art as a profession, he was sent to the Royal Conservatory at Madrid, where he became the pupil of Don M. Mendizabal in piano, Don R. Hermando in harmony and Dr. H. Esloa in counterpoint. At the close of three years he was graduated with the highest honors, having obtained the first prize at the public examination and being decorated with the gold medal of the university, which was conferred on him by Queen Isabella (the second). In 1867 Senor Arrillaga went to Paris, where he studied at the conservatory and also took private lessons. At the age of twenty-one he was seized with a desire to travel and, after a sojourn in several South American cities and in the Antilles, he came to this country. |
Don Santiago Arrillaga died on January 27, 1915 and his widow Clementine died on January 21, 1937 at 5854 Birch Court, Oakland, California, United States.
Very Lamentable death
On the 27th of the current at 3 a.m., the esteemed Professor Mr. Santiago Arrillaga ceased to exist. His death was almost violent because he was sick no more than a few days and apparently not of gravity, even on Thursday past he was seen as usual directing music and singing in the Church of Nuestra. Señora de Guadalupe. Mr. Arrillaga with his death leaves a void in the Spanish Colony of San Francisco, difficult to fill with his renowned personal merits and high culture. The teacher, who was a native of Spain and received his education at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, his arrival on the Pacific Coast dates back to from 40 years because when he died he was 67 years old, leaving three daughters and two sons, two married Mrs. de Canalizo and Mrs. de Alegría, his sons Mr. Leo, married to the distinguished Mrs. Leticia Marshall de Arrillaga, Singles, Miss Cecilia and Vicente. His distinguished wife, Mrs. Clementina, is a native of La Paz, Baja California, Mexico. Receive our deepest condolences to the distinguished and troubled family.
